The controversy surrounding actor Kim Soo Hyun has intensified following claims from the late actress Kim Sae Ron’s family that he dated her when she was a minor. As public scrutiny grows, MBC’s variety show ‘Good Day’ has issued an official apology and announced plans to minimize Kim Soo Hyun’s screen time.

On March 17, the show’s production company, TEO, released a statement on its official YouTube channel, apologizing for the concerns raised. The team acknowledged the gravity of the issue and assured viewers that Kim Soo Hyun’s appearances would be heavily edited in upcoming episodes.

Pre-Recorded Footage & Emergency Edits

TEO explained that ‘Good Day’ is pre-produced one to two weeks in advance due to translation processes for overseas broadcasting. The March 16 episode had already been submitted to platforms like MBC and global OTT services before the controversy escalated. However, the team rushed to edit Kim Soo Hyun’s segments at the last minute, resulting in a shorter and less polished episode.

Despite the backlash, Kim Soo Hyun participated in a March 13 recording session, sparking further debate. The production team clarified that they had awaited an official statement from his agency, Gold Medalist, but had to proceed with recording due to scheduling constraints. They also emphasized that his parts were filmed separately from other cast members, anticipating possible cuts.

Kim Soo Hyun to Be Removed From Future Episodes

TEO reaffirmed its stance, stating:

“As long as the controversy continues, it could damage the show’s original purpose and the sincerity of other cast members. Moving forward, Kim Soo Hyun’s parts will be heavily edited, and his individual recordings from March 13 will not be aired.”

Backlash Extends Beyond the Show

The controversy erupted after Kim Sae Ron’s family accused Kim Soo Hyun of dating her while she was underage. Initially, Gold Medalist planned to address the claims later but issued a statement on March 14, asserting that the two only dated from summer 2019 to fall 2020, after Kim Sae Ron became an adult.

Additionally, the agency refuted allegations that Kim Soo Hyun pressured the late actress to repay financial damages from her past DUI accident, stating that the debt issue was between Kim Sae Ron and her agency.

However, public backlash against Kim Soo Hyun remains strong, with fans criticizing his agency’s contradictory statements and demanding his removal from ‘Good Day.’ Moreover, brands he endorses have reportedly begun terminating contracts, further escalating the fallout.
