TWICE’s Jeongyeon Parts Ways With JYP Entertainment, Signs With VARO Entertainment

SINGAPORE: TWICE’s Jeongyeon is beginning a new chapter in her career after parting ways with JYP Entertainment and signing with VARO Entertainment for her individual activities.

The move comes after more than a decade with JYP Entertainment, where Jeongyeon began her career before making her debut as a member of TWICE in 2015.

VARO Entertainment confirmed the signing on August 10, welcoming Jeongyeon to the agency and highlighting her versatility, potential and sincere interest in exploring acting.

Building on the global career she has established as an artist, VARO Entertainment plans to support Jeongyeon as she takes on new individual roles while continuing her activities as a member of TWICE.

For her acting activities, she will use her real name, YU JEONGYEON, introducing another side of herself outside the music career fans have known through TWICE.

The move also brings Jeongyeon under the same agency as her older sister, actress Gong Seung Yeon. VARO Entertainment represents several actors, including Byeon Woo Seok, Lee You Mi, Lee Chae Min and Jin Goo, and is also involved in film and drama production.

Following the news, Jeongyeon personally addressed ONCE through a letter shared on her Instagram.

Looking back on her years with JYP Entertainment, she described the company as her “second home”, having spent much of her life there since her teenage years and creating countless memories along the way.

Moving on from somewhere that had been such a major part of her life came with uncertainty, but Jeongyeon shared that the encouragement she received from her fellow TWICE members and ONCE gave her the confidence to take the next step.

She also reassured fans that her journey with TWICE is continuing.

In her letter, Jeongyeon shared that TWICE remains at the centre of her life and that standing before ONCE as a member of the group will continue to be her first priority.

Moving forward, Jeongyeon will balance both sides of her career, continuing her activities with TWICE while exploring new opportunities as YU JEONGYEON.

After more than a decade spent building her music career with TWICE, the move marks the beginning of a new individual chapter for Jeongyeon, without closing the door on the group that has been at the heart of her career.

At the time of writing, no further details have been announced regarding the individual contract arrangements of TWICE’s remaining eight members.
