SEVENTEEN has once again proven their enduring legacy, earning one of South Korea’s highest distinctions at the 2025 Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards. The group received the Presidential Commendation, a recognition that highlights their immense role in shaping K-pop’s international presence and cultural influence.
The ceremony took place on October 23 at the National Theater of Korea in Seoul, where SEVENTEEN was celebrated alongside other cultural figures. Although the group is currently on their North American world tour, members Jeonghan and Wonwoo attended on behalf of the team to receive the award. Both idols, who are serving their military duties, appeared through special arrangements with the relevant agencies, making the moment even more meaningful.
During their acceptance speech, Jeonghan and Wonwoo expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting how receiving such an honor on SEVENTEEN’s 10th anniversary made the moment especially memorable. “We’re thankful to everyone who has supported K-pop’s growth and believed in our journey. We’ll keep working hard to represent Korean culture with pride,” they said, also sending love to their fans, CARATs, for their constant support.
The Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards is considered the nation’s most prestigious recognition in entertainment, honoring artists who have contributed to the global expansion of Korean content. For SEVENTEEN, this moment marks a full circle. After receiving the Prime Minister’s Commendation in 2020, they now stand among the few to advance to the Presidential honor within five years.
Since debuting in 2015, SEVENTEEN has built a record-breaking career. Their 10th mini album “FML” became the best-selling K-pop album in history, while “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN” set the record for highest first-week sales. Their global presence has also made history, with appearances on the main stage of the Glastonbury Festival in the UK and as headliners at Lollapalooza Berlin and Tecate Pa’l Norte in Mexico.
Outside of music, SEVENTEEN continues to inspire through philanthropy and cultural outreach. As UNESCO’s first Youth Goodwill Ambassadors, the group donated USD 1 million to launch the Global Youth Grant Scheme, supporting young leaders worldwide. Earlier this year, they contributed proceeds from the “JOOPITER presents: sacai x SEVENTEEN” charity auction to UNESCO in honor of World Youth Day.
Celebrating their tenth year together, SEVENTEEN’s achievements continue to expand across industries. Members Woozi and Vernon have been inducted as voting members of the Recording Academy (Grammys), while the group was listed in Gold House’s A100, recognizing the most influential Asians of 2025. Their latest full album “HAPPY BURSTDAY” also debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, reinforcing their global status.
Currently, SEVENTEEN is captivating audiences across the United States with their “WORLD TOUR [NEW_]”, performing to sold-out venues in Tacoma, Los Angeles, and Austin, before continuing to Sunrise and Washington D.C. The group’s passion, consistency, and connection with fans remain at the heart of their success, proving that even after ten years, SEVENTEEN’s story is still being written, one stage, one record, and one heartfelt moment at a time.
